Nathan Simpson was born in 1973 on the South Coast of New South Wales. He works in a variety of media, including oil, acrylic, ink, charcoal and metalpoint. In addition to somewhat traditional realistic portraits (human and other animal), he produces paintings and drawings inspired by the simplicity and directness of ancient, naïve and children’s art as well as iconographic traditions from around the world. As for subject matter, he often draws on literature, myth, legend and folklore or anything else that is mildly odd.
In spite of the various Christian-themed works he occasionally still produces, Nathan Simpson is an ex-Catholic and in absolutely no way religious.
